Adware – Adware is program or written piece of code that is responsible for displaying pop-ups or displays advertisements on your computer. Those programs which provide detailed information are not generally considered malware.

Virus – A virus is a program replicates itself by infecting other programs and files on your computer when run. A virus program may have multiple affects like it may reflect a poor joke in a small box, wipe your hard drive, or just replicate itself. Such type of infections tends to stay on your device and spread themselves from one machine to another.

Worm – It is a program that has the ability to spread to other computers on its own when run, using either mass-mailing technique or the Internet to infect a remote computer using known security holes.

Hijackers – It is a program that tries to hijack certain Internet functions like redirecting the user at some other page rather than directing it to the user’s default page. This infection replace search results from popular search engines with their own information or redirect search queries to a undesired search engine.

Spyware – It is a program that tracks user’s activities and information and send it to the hackers or cyber criminals without your knowledge.

Trojan – It is a program that seems decent but it is intentionally designed to cause execute malicious activity or to provide a backdoor to your system.

Backdoor – It is a program that allows a remote user to perform tasks and commands on your machine without your permission. These programs are used to launch attacks on other machines, or hack other computers or distribute copyrighted software or media.

How these infections get into your device?

To get started and leave their affect, malware and infections also need to run and work. Malware programs run in the same manner like other legitimate programs do, but they have illicit intention.  For the most part, infections made a configuration entry in the Windows Registry to get started when you start your computer. In the Windows operating system there are multiple methods to make a program run, so if one is an average computer user will find it difficult to find manually.
